Leading Light Foundation seeks motivated legal writers and research staff for its News and Policy Journal. Seeking writers who can create clean and compelling copy for news and journal publications and website. Writers and researchers will perform web research, conduct original interviews as necessary and other investigative reporting work to create compelling press releases and articles covering wide ranges of international law and human rights issues. The content will deliver informative news stories, legal information and analysis aimed at a both legal and non-legal audience. Writers will research, write and publish timely legal analysis articles on developments in international human rights law.

All positions at this present time are Pro Bono and Voluntary. Research and writing will be credited and published and distributed for publishing in international news media, related journals and submitted to international organizations, Bar Associations, government bodies, Ambassadors and Heads of State.

Positions Available:

Directors of Regions: Directors supervise and oversee assigned Legal Writers and Research Associates on assigned Regions and topics. Directors also research, write and report. Directors will be expected to become fully knowledgeable on assigned regions and present findings and opinions at panels and conferences. Will report to Founder on status of projects and submit to Founder edited copies for review.

Legal Writers/Contributors:  work under the supervision and guidance of Directors and Founder. Will report to Directors on status of projects and submit to Director edited copies for review.

Research Associates:  will work under the supervision and guidance of the Founder and assigned Directors and Legal Writers.

Preferred Skills, Backgrounds and Abilities:

• Superior copy editing and proofreading skills
• Excellent organizational and research skills with strong news judgment and analytical ability
• Ability to tackle complex topics and develop well-researched articles
• Experience writing about the law is not required, but a willingness to learn is essential.
• Ability to meet deadlines and turn assignments around quickly
• Ability to devote 2 hours per week and interest in long-term, steady work
• Working knowledge of APA and AP styles
• Strong knowledge of MS Word and excellent typing skills
• Attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple projects
• Ability to follow instructions verbatim as well as the ability to work independently
• Ability to prioritize concurrent projects and adhere to challenging deadlines
• Experience with WordPress helpful, but not required.
• Research & Writing - 1 year
• Paralegal Certification
• B.A. in Political Science, English, History or related field
• Masters in Political Science, English, History or related field
• J.D. (Juris Doctor) from an internationally or ABA recognized and accredited law school (U.S.)
